Gordon and I both grew up
in the time when families always grew gardens. I can remember as a child, eating wonderful
tomatoes warm from the sun and the gooseberries barely turning pink being made into pies.
Gordon has great childhood memories of tapping sugar maples, then spending all day with
his father cooking the sap into syrup. Well, we're all grown up now, and live in the city
where gardening is sometimes a challenge. I became a Master Gardener a few years ago, and
Gordon just seems to know all this stuff about gardening.
Gallery House
is a city house, and therefore doesn't have much yard space - so we brought the garden
inside!
The Garden Room is my favorite. It's joyful and
exuberant. Its yellow walls host a painted garden. There's a picket fence and wisteria
twinning up the wall, a patch of sunflowers and a pot of pansies. Butterflies float
through the sky toward their butterfly house. Look above the window and you'll find a
bird's nest.
In the private bathroom, there
are potted plants and another bird's nest - all painted on the walls!
The Queen-sized bed is fun, too. It's draped in vines and decorated
in a four seasons motif. One side has autumn leaves and grapes, the next holly leaves and
a snowflake. Then comes the spring side with flowers and bird houses. Last is summer, with
roses and little baskets for pretend gathering.
Original art and prints in the Garden Room feature landscapes by
various artists.
You'll find a television (cable equipped) in the armoire, along with
books to relax with. So that you'll always look your best, there's an iron and ironing
board in the closet. You have a telephone with data port, mini-refrigerator, hair dryer,
writing desk, ceiling fan and clock radio. And you're just steps away from the second
floor balcony that overlooks Central Park.
